SEASONALITY OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN CHILDREN
Introduction. The number, type and course of diseases occurring in Poland and across the world undergo constant modifications. However, the prognoses show that the percentage of children suffering from various diseases is going to increase because of the prevailing lifestyle.
Aim. The research aims at uncovering the seasonality regarding the incidence of infectious diseases in case of children in 2010 and 2011 depending on gender and age of tested patients.
Material and method. The research was based on medical documentation: records of general practitioners from nonpublic healthcare unit Uni-Med, located on 5 Nowy Swiat Street in Lublin. The documentation was analyzed during the period between January 2010 and December 2011, excluding August and September 2010.
Results. There was confirmed an increased infections incidence in children in III and IV quarters, with the peak in March and December. Furthermore, the most common infectious disease in children is acute infection of upper airways with multiple and undetermined location, as well as the nasopharyngitis (common cold). Additionally, it was confirmed that the age influenced the incidence of infections. The age groups prone most commonly to developing infectious illnesses are 3-4 year-olds, the least likely to become ill are teenagers, aged 17-18 years. The infectious disease mostly related to gender is bladder infection, as it is diagnosed most commonly in girls. On the other hand, the respiratory tract infections are slightly more often identified in boys.
