System Project under the name „Professional training of nurses and midwives as part of bridging studies” co-funded from the European Social Fund as part of the Human Capital Operational Programme – execution status (as of 30.06.2011)

Introduction. The Department of Nurses and Midwives at the Ministry of Health is conducting the System Project under the name "Professional training of nurses and midwives as part of bridging studies", which is co-funded from the European Social Fund as part of the Human Capital Operational Programme 2007-2013. The planned budget for this project amounts to 180 million PLN. The main goal of the Project is to supplement the professional qualifications of at least 24 000 nurses and midwives up to the level of Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery. The Project has a national range; it is executed in entire Poland between 01.05.2008 and 30.06.2015. In the years 2008-2010 sixty one educational institutions were offering bridging studies as part of the Project. By 30 June 2011 a total of 18426 nurses and midwives have taken up bridging studies within the Project and a total of 10536 have already graduated from such training.
Aim. The goal of the paper is to present detailed information about the Project, including information on the goals, execution period, assumed results and people covered by the planned support, as well as a presentation of the actions completed within the Project in the years 2008-2011 and the activities planned until the end of the Project.
Conclusions. The results of surveys carried out among participants, who have graduated from the Project in 2010, show, that for 97.7% of the respondents the basic benefit was the increase of professional qualifications, 89.9% experienced an increase in their motivation to develop their professional career, 92.7% experienced an increase of their self-confidence in professional circumstances, 88.7% experienced an increase of their self-evaluation in social circumstances, for 45.5% of the respondents graduating from the studies further opportunities of professional development have opened up and social development took place in the case of 40.1% of the respondents.
