Abstract

EXAMINATION IN THE COURSE OF POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION OF NURSES AND MIDWIVES AND A PROPOSAL FOR IMPLEMENTATION THE OSCE – TYPE EXAMINATION

Introduction. In planning the course program of each type of education several factors should be taken into account. One of them is how to check the knowledge that the student should possess and the skills that should be purchased.

Aim. The aim of my work is to analyze the examination types in all forms of postgraduate education of nurses and midwives and theoretical consideration of the merits of the implementation of OSCE-type examination (objective structured clinical examination).

Discussion. By analyzing different types of programs of postgraduate education for nurses and midwives point which has not been sufficiently described and structured is how to check learning outcomes. Each above-mentioned program consists of several basic parts. Relevant to the work are: a list of skills which are the subject of education, the resulting list of skills, how to check the effects of teaching and the range of theoretical issues in relation to each module. The problem of examination in these programs has been omitted or included in a very general way. In the case of specialized and qualification training decide how knowledge and skills students will be tested, we can leave the organizer of education. However more formally instructions on how to do it. Doubts appear in the case of specialized type of training. Ending this course and successful passing state exam nurse or midwife receives the title of specialist in the relevant field. This is theoretical examination despite the fact that a large part of training are practice and teaching practical skills. In the case of such a prestigious and desirable form of education will be necessary to test the knowledge not only theoretical but also practical.

Conclusion. The way to test practical knowledge could become OSCE-type exam, which is carried out among others in Britain, the United States or Canada. It serves a standardized assessment of skills in the simulated environment. Implementing it at the central level, we can get results that are comparable between the students and will evaluate the quality of courses provided by various promoters, track and compare results over time.
