METHODS OF ASSESSMENT OF ACUTE POSTOPERATIVE PAIN IN CHILDREN
A pain is a very important factor which warns against dangers, but it may also be a source of unnecessary suffering. In such a situation it should be effectively soothed. Optimal pain management starts with pain assessment. When the situation concerns children, the estimation of the pain level causes difficulties. Among pediatric patients, the choice of the appropriate tool for assessment should be based on the patient’s age, on the level of his/her development and on the prior experience connected with the pain. The selection of the tool from among many other pain level measuring scales causes an additional problem. The assessment of the pain should proceed in regular time intervals, taking advantage of the appropriately chosen tool. Thus, it is essential that members from therapeutic team were able to apply basic measuring scales to the age of the patients.
