Introduction. Stroke is a disease which can be prevented, but in the case of getting ill, specialist and therapeutic actions can ensure the minimization of the effects of the disease.
A lot of patients and their close ones don’t know how to recognize the symptoms of stroke and aren’t aware that the illness needs immediate treatment.
The definition „time is brain” should be understood by all of the engaged in the „stroke chain of survival”
Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate the time period between the occurrence of stroke and the admittance of patients to the neurological health care facility in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski.
Material and methods: The examination covered 381 people. The material was obtained based on a review of the patients’ documentation, and in conclusion the results of Chi^2 Pearson test were used.
Results. Among the examined population there were 52% of women and 48% of men. In the investigation five categories of time were considered (>5,5h, 4-5,5h, 4-2,5h, 2-2,5h and <2h).
The obtained results show that during 90 „gold minutes” 18.11% of the examined asked for help and in 4.5 hrs. 11.29% of patients referred to the hospital. Still 72.18% of the respondents found themselves beyond time warranting a chance of life saving.
Conclusions. Too long period of time
