Abstract

The aim of the studies was to find out, whether potentiometric method of nitrates’ determination with the use of ionoselective electrode (ISE) can be applied for determination of this form of nitrogen in aqueous extracts (infusions) obtained from leaves and roots with rhizomes of medicinal plants. Concentration of N–NO3 in leaves is from 0.120 to 1.531 mg/g of dry plant weight (d. wt.), and in roots with rhizomes from 0.084 to 2.991 mg/g d. wt. It was found that N-NO3 level in relation to total nitrogen concentration covers the range from 1.1 to 41.1% of total N in leaves, and from 1.4 to 27.0% in roots with rhizomes. By using of the Student’s-t test the results of N–NO3 determinations obtained by potentiometric method between the two groups of samples, leaves and roots with rhizomes, were compared, and there was no statistically significant difference found. However, the precision of potentiometric measurements was weaker in the case of the roots with rhizomes than the value obtained for the studied leaves. Relating the obtained results of N–NO3 determinations recalculated into nitrates, to the norm of Acceptable Daily Intakes = ADI, it was noticed that any of the studied samples exceeded this value.
