Abstract

ORGANIZATION OF THE WORK OF AN OUTPATIENT CLINIC IN THE ECAP (EPIDEMIOLOGY OF ALLERGIC DISORDERS IN POLAND) PROJECT FROM A NURSE’S POINT OF VIEW

Within the ECAP project an examination at an outpatient’s clinic is carried out in the area of 9 regions in Poland (Warsaw, Lublin, Białystok, Gdańsk, Poznań, Wrocław, Katowice, Kraków, districts of Zamość and Krasnystaw). According to the programme framework 7 thousand patients are to be examined in age groups of 6-7 years, 13-14 years and 20-44 years. The epidemiologic survey needs different organization companion to every day clinical practices. The examination at an outpatient’s clinic lasts approximately from 45-60 minutes and consists of the following stages: signing by a patient an approval for the examination, a preliminary doctor’s qualification for further diagnostic investigation: spirometry, peak nasal inspiratory flow (PNIF), prick skin tests (out of 15 common environmental allergens), taking blood samples from the ulnar vein for further laboratory investigation to detect allergic diseases. It about 40 patients for day, circulating between particular mentioned above procedures. The above-mentioned diagnostic investigations are carried out by the qualified nursing staff.
