Diagnostic issues regarding the patient with personality disorder – case report

A case of 22 years old woman has been presented. This patient was hospitalized in the Department of Psychiatry, Medical University of Lublin due to strong suicidal thoughts and worsened mood. The patient was psychiatrically treated for one year, although first mental problems had appeared in the period of early adolescence with the picture of mood liability and suicidal ideations. Almost one year before the admission she had taken a suicidal attempt. During current hospitalization a variety of diagnostic examinations was performed that excluded psychotic disorder. The results of psychological tests indicated disordered personality traits as a reason of patient’s problems. Based on psychiatric and psychological examinations the diagnosis was made – personality disorder type histrionic with borderline personality elements.
