Localized scleroderma, cerebral palsy and psychotic depression

Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease. Neuropsychiatric symptoms in connective tissue diseases occur, according to various authors, in 30–80% of patients. Depression is the most often described comorbid mental disorder.
In this article, the authors analyze a case of a young woman who had been undergoing intensive rehabilitation since her childhood, due to cerebral palsy and who felt a strong bond to her mother. The occurrence of skin lesions involving the face caused by scleroderma and the threat of disfigurement led to severe trauma and the development of psychotic disorders.
In this study we show that there are many causes that can lead to neuropsychiatric symptoms in connective tissue diseases, which indicates that such cases require cooperation of different specialists.
